Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
We had such a wonderful Christmas Eve- in the morning a full parlor with some tasty goodies, we learned some of the stories of our favorite carols as we sang them together. Then in the evening, with a full sanctuary, we celebrated the coming of Emmanuel into the world in our traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Communion service. We prepared for worship to the bluesy strains of Trae Riley’s saxophone playing “Silent Night”. I don’t know about you, but that made my heart ready for the good news! We worshiped as we heard Liz Wasson sing “O Holy Night” and celebrated the gifts of grace and redemption we know in Jesus Christ as reflected in 2 famous Christmas tales: “The Gift of the Magi” and “A Christmas Carol.” And we shared the meal that brings us into the presence of Emmanuel, Jesus our Christ.
Now we look forward to new year 2018. There will be opportunities to serve our “Inside” ministries of worship, nurture and community. There will be an opportunity to dream about how to fulfill our ministry to our local community and beyond as we form our “Outside” ministry team for meeting, reaching and serving our neighbors. There is the important work we are calling “Nuts and Bolts”, the people, money and mortar (building) that makes our ministry happen; there is always a need to help us with these important ministries. Watch for the clipboards to sign up!
If you wish to make a year end gift to Coates Street Presbyterian Church, please date it December 31, 2017 and have it to church by January 4, 2018 so we can close our books on 2017. It will be posted on your giving report for 2017 which you will receive later in January.
Your gift can help fund our Pastor Nominating Committee’s important work; the pastoral search will incur some advertising, travel and moving expenses in 2018. Or if you wish, your gift can help with the winter utilities or be set aside for needed work on the building in 2018. If you want to earmark your gift for a special use, please indicate that.
Thank you for supporting the mission and ministry of your church.
I have so enjoyed being your Transitional Pastor in 2017; I look forward to our work and worship together as we begin the year 2018!
Blessed New Year!
