In the Lord, I’ll ever be thankful…
I am thankful for you: we have a very busy November and December coming up and you have been willing to volunteer your time and talents (cooking, etc.) and goods to host our Missouri Union Presbytery Youth Retreat one weekend, and Presbytery meeting the next!
Mary Riley is working hard to provide a meaningful retreat on the theme of hospitality. We are grateful to Pastor Katie Nix for being the keynote speaker (youth ministry is a specialty of hers) and to all the donations that have come in. The youth will cook and host the Saturday morning Community Kitchen meal and attend the Veterans Day parade so will be able to reflect on service in several ways.
We are engaged in an important discernment process as a congregation. I hope you are taking time daily to read, pray and reflect on the Scripture passages offered. When we gather for our Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 19, we will take time to share our key ideas on what God is calling this church to be and do and the pastoral leadership needs to meet God’s call. Your input will be given to the Pastor Nominating Committee when it forms in the new year. I am thankful to God; through the Holy Spirit in prayer and study, we can truly discover God’s call on our lives and our life together.
The session has issued a call for a meeting of the congregation on Sunday, Dec 10 at the end of worship to amend the bylaws so that we may have 9 elders and 9 deacons to lead us. Then we will elect the new class of elders and deacons (class of 2020) and the Pastor Nominating Committee. Those names will be published by the end of November. I am thankful for all those willing to serve.
Stay tuned for Advent….
